Pavement

2004, video

DVD, Pal, color, no sound; 15'07'' (loop)

Fragment, 1'22''

Video is playing with the possibility for endless observation. The desiring gaze is directed at the phenomenon of urban living. The gaze does not see reality but its reflection recreated by the stony anonymity of the cast shadows. The title Pavement is a general reference to surfaces that are objects with a concrete function in this case – continuous alternation of different surfaces with dark human silhouettes projected on them. The shadows are playing out the various dynamics of their characters. The gaze is fixed by the multidimensionality and is forced to "auto focus" on the meaning of the anonymous image.
