The Region of Perg-Strudengau, Austria

Bike Ratchet Hike is a cycling performance, which develops its own perspective on the region and the landscape of the Machland (Upper Austria), navigating various locations and landscapes and making them into a stage. The bicycle, wheelchair, and other mobile vehicular devices simultaneously become actors and instruments. The initial idea comes from the regional traditions such as “Ratschen”, which is recognized as the immaterial cultural heritage of Upper Austria. It is transformed into the performance as the examination of mobility and the body. The project contains different elements installed in public space – objects, sculptures, sound and video installations that are made accessible to be experienced by many different people at once. The choreography with which the cyclists move through the landscape connects and makes intersections between action, sound art, media art, and bicycle history dynamic

Realized in cooperation with the artists and experts Theresa Böck, Veronika Mayer, Christian F. Schiller, Petra Sturm
